Ex-Detroit Pistons forward Markieff Morris is returning to the D… Dallas, that is.
Sources have confirmed to The Athletic’s Shams Charania that the 35-year-old Morris has agreed to terms with the Dallas Mavericks. Reports state that the Mavericks, fresh off an NBA Finals defeat at the hands of the Boston Celtics, prioritized re-signing the journeyman forward, who will be entering his 14th NBA season.
In 26 games last season with the Mavericks, Morris averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds.
During the 2019 free agency period, Morris signed with the Pistons and proved to be a solid addition during his brief stay. In 44 games (16 starts), he averaged 11 points and 3.9 rebounds. He was a reliable scorer, shooting 45% from the field and just below 40% from beyond the arc.
Shortly after the 2020 NBA trade deadline, Morris and the Pistons agreed to a contract buyout. He signed with the Los Angeles Lakers several days later and helped them win the 2020 NBA Championship in the Orlando bubble.
Before Morris played in Detroit, his twin brother Marcus suited up for the Pistons for two seasons (2015-2017).
In addition to the Pistons, Lakers, and Mavericks, Morris has played for the Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets.
The Suns selected Morris with the 13th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft out of Kansas.
