After playing at McDowell Intermediate High School on Friday, the North Allegheny water polo teams moved to Cathedral Prep’s Hagerty Family Events Center for the second day of the Erie Challenge 2 tournament. It was a tough schedule for NA as they were playing against the top teams in each conference in Pennsylvania and Saturday was not kind to the Tigers as the NA boys fell 9-6 to La Salle and 7-4 to Wilson while the NA girls dropped their contest 10-0 to Wilson.
For the boys, in their first contest against La Salle, things were tight with the score tied 4-4 at halftime. Callan Bunger and Tabari Morgan each had two goals for the Tigers. Mason Shantz had a goal and three steals while Caden Currykosky added the other marker. Filip Malezanov had two steals defensively. Mike Stefanko made eight saves.
In the second match against Wilson, Morgan had two more goals. Currykosky had a goal and two steals while Shantz helped with two steals. Logan Purnell added the other goal. Stefanko made eight saves in this match as well.
On the girls side, Bella Spino had five steals for North Allegheny. Mikaela Dassanaike and May Coffman each added steals. Katherine Vales made seven saves in net.
The North Allegheny girls now have a 7-8 record. NA’s boys team is now 12-5. The Tigers will return to action on Tuesday when they host McDowell with the girls starting at 5:00 p.m. and the boys starting at 6:00 p.m. at North Allegheny High School. This will be senior night and the match will be covered on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
