Department of Management Assistant Professor Sam C. Ehrlich has launched the College Sports Litigation Tracker, a free online database designed to monitor ongoing lawsuits which could significantly impact the future of college athletics. 

The platform currently tracks 38 active cases, covering critical issues such as athlete revenue sharing, employment status and Title IX reforms. Ehrlich provides plain-language summaries, regular updates and direct links to key legal filings, making complex legal information accessible to fans, administrators and policymakers. He views this project as an extension of his research and has chosen not to monetize it, reinforcing his commitment to bridging the information gap in sports law.

“I had been following these lawsuits for a while, but it was frustrating to dig through files and social media posts to find relevant documents,” Ehrlich said.

A conversation with Joe Sabin, a professor at Southeastern Louisiana University, sparked an idea–what if there was a centralized resource to track these cases in real time? That vision quickly turned into reality for Ehrlich over the 2024/2025 winter break. Since launching the site, Ehrlich has streamlined the process of monitoring lawsuits, using a legal subscription service and maintaining a “case calendar” that highlights key dates and making complex legal proceedings into something more digestible for the general public. And the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

Recently, Ehlrich was invited to discuss one of the cases on Orlando Sports Talk radio, where the host praised the website as a valuable resource. His site has also been highlighted in Sports Illustrated, and professionals across athletics, journalism and policy research have expressed appreciation for the tracker’s clarity and organization. 

“This is exactly why I wanted to create it,” he said. “The support from my peers and friends has been incredible, and I’m really grateful for the feedback so far.”
