Egypt, Qatar Seek Gaza Ceasefire
CAIRO – 31 July 2024: Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, received Bader Abdelatty, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, and Affairs of Egyptians Abroad, during his visit to the Qatari capital, Doha.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration and director of the public diplomacy department, stated that Minister Abdelatty praised during the meeting the qualitative shift witnessed by Egyptian-Qatari relations over the past two years, as the exchange of visits at the summit level provided a strong impetus in all its aspects, as well as the visit of the Prime Minister to Qatar at the end of February 2023, in addition to the exchange of visits at the level of senior officials during the past period to enhance aspects of bilateral relations.
The official spokesman added that Abdelatty stressed the importance of continuing to strengthen bilateral relations in all fields, especially economic and investment, in light of the comprehensive renaissance and urban expansion that Egypt is witnessing, and the accompanying major projects that attract foreign investment, while welcoming Qatar’s efforts to explore new investment opportunities in Egypt, in addition to strengthening cooperation between the Egyptian Sovereign Fund and the Qatari Sovereign Fund.
Ambassador Abu Zeid explained that the meeting touched on the continued efforts of the two countries and the joint coordination between them to end the war in Gaza, in light of the convergence of the visions of the two countries on the need to reach an immediate ceasefire and ensure the continued flow of humanitarian aid sufficient to meet the needs of the Palestinian people, and the demand for the need for the international community to assume its responsibilities to achieve peace in the Middle East in accordance with the two-state solution, as well as the efforts of Cairo and Doha to prevent the conflict from spreading in the region and joint work to ensure the security and stability of the region.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad welcomed, on his part, the rapid development witnessed by Egyptian-Qatari relations at all levels, which is reflected in the intensification of consultation and mutual coordination regarding all regional challenges, as well as within the framework of activating mechanisms of joint work to elevate bilateral relations to broader horizons.
