The Duke men’s basketball team bullied the California Golden Bears for a bounce-back victory on Wednesday night, a 78-57 thumping powered by 27 points from Cooper Flagg and more of the Blue Devils’ signature suffocating defense.
When head coach Jon Scheyer woke up on Thursday morning, he and his players remained No. 2 in the men’s basketball NET rankings.
A home victory over the 12-12 Golden Bears won’t be the biggest line on Duke’s resume at the conclusion of the regular season, but the Blue Devils are 5-3 against Quad 1 opponents and 7-1 in true road games this year.
The Auburn Tigers, despite a head-to-head loss against the Blue Devils in December, still occupy the top spot with 13 Quad 1 wins and a 22-2 overall record. The Houston Cougars, Florida Gators (who beat Auburn on its court over the weekend), and Tennessee Volunteers followed behind Duke to complete the top five.
The Louisville Cardinals (No. 27) and Clemson Tigers (No. 29) were the only other ACC teams in the top 36. Duke’s next opponent, the Stanford Cardinal, are 81st with a 16-9 record.
