North Fork golf courses are a mainstay for avid linksmen, community members and tourists alike. And while your clubs may have collected dust this winter, several indoor golf facilities offer a temperature-regulated oasis for those itching to get back on the green.
Golf simulators provide a unique opportunity for golfers to improve their swing and alignment close to home during the colder months — no need to travel south to make a satisfying hole in one. Whether you’re working on your angle of attack, footwork or grip in the offseason, these venues have recreational golf players covered year round.
To add a little realism, these simulators use monitors, sensors, cameras or radar to collect data on the ball’s trajectory, angle and speed to echo its flight on a virtual golf course and show where it would land. You can receive feedback on your swing to improve your performance and get a leg up on competition come springtime.
Want to test your skills out against fellow virtual golfers? Simulation programs offer virtual leagues and tournaments that competitors can join to put their putt to the test.
Here are a few East End locations where you can escape to a variety of bucket-list golf courses without incurring any travel expenses. Grab a few friends, have a drink, tee up and explore the plethora of fairways available at the press of a button.
Virtual round-time recommendations are one to two hours for solo players; two hours for two players; three hours for three players; and four hours for four players.
Endless rounds of enjoyment
Endless Round Golf Course Studio (7785 Main Road, Mattituck, 631-298-7156) offers more than 260 iconic golf courses through the TrackMan golf simulator software, including 50 Professional Golfers’ Association venues. TrackMan is certified by The Titleist Performance Institute, an “educational organization dedicated to the study of body functions in relation to the golf swing,” according to its website.
Endless Round “provides something for people of all ages — golfers and nongolfers,” says Bryan Zissel, who co-owns the facility, which opened in October 2023.
The TrackMan program provides players the opportunity to bring their game to the next level, work on their mobility or fitness in the sport, or simply have a good time solo or with friends driving the ball down the green. Players can make an account to keep track of their data across visits, monitoring their shot trajectory, impact and launch information.
TrackMan offers a variety of virtual games, including capture the flag, bullseye and closest to the pin.
“It’s a family-friendly environment where people can come and stay active during the cold-weather months,” Zissel says.
Peak tee times are Thursday at 5 p.m. through Sunday, available at a rate of $80 per hour for up to four golfers. Off-peak tee times are Monday through Thursday at 5 p.m. at a rate of $60 per hour for up to four golfers. Reservations are required.
Four seasons of fun
Over on the South Fork, explore 90 world-renowned golf courses at Four Seasons Indoor Golf (668 County Road 39, Southampton, 631-283-2158). The courses are precise replicas of their real-world counterparts as part E6 Connect, the program Four Seasons uses.
Duffers can also choose to practice and analyze their drive’s distance, carry, launch, club speed, ball speed, back spin, direction, smash factor, side spin, club face at impact and club path.
Practice modes include the driving range and short game. To improve your ball striking on the driving range, you can choose from large targets, small targets, shot shape and flat range.
The short-range practice mode welcomes athletes to work on their pitching, chipping and putting. Here, users have complete control of ball and pin placement in the virtual environment.
The E6 Connect program offers live tournaments and competitions for challengers to enter. They can also participate in fun games like closest to the pin, long drive and skill shot challenge.
E6Golfers can log into their player profiles to store and save all of their shots to be viewed later online.
Simulator rates are $50 per hour on the weekend and $40 per hour on weekdays. Similar time is available for up to four players at a time. Cost per hour remains the same regardless of the number of players.
Putts on point
Step onto the greens walked by golfing legends via the simulators at Scott’s Pointe (5835 Middle Country Road, Calverton, 631-953-2133). The site’s two state-of-the-art golf simulators can transport visitors to breathtaking oceanfront courses and iconic bunkers.
This 43-acre park opened in 2023 and offers a range of fun activities if your family is looking to satisfy a variety of interests, from rock climbing, axe throwing, laser tag and beyond.
Park staff describe the simulator as a virtual-reality experience without goggles, as players step up to a big screen to putt their ball. The facility supplies clubs, ball and safety goggles for a seamless experience.
The simulators provide an opportunity for first-time golfers to try out swinging a club without the stress of an 18-hole course. For longtime golfers, they offer a unique opportunity to practice on a regular basis.
Players can reserve one of the simulator bays for up to six people at a cash rate of $60 per hour. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are recommended.
All visitors also need a spectator pass to enter the park’s 75,000-square-foot building at a cash rate of $10 per day. They must also sign a waiver.
