Just 44 years young, Rohan Bopanna will be making his third Olympic appearance at Paris 2024 and the Indian tennis ace’s incredible journey has been featured in Doubles Trouble, an Olympics Channel original which premieres on the Olympics.com on July 23.
Bopanna made history in 2024 by winning the Australian Open with his doubles partner Matthew Ebden of Australia – the first Grand Slam men’s doubles win of the Indian’s career. Consequently, he also became the oldest world No. 1 in doubles tennis rankings at the age of 43.
He also became the oldest ATP Masters 1000 champion when he won the Indian Wells doubles crown with Ebden last year and followed up by becoming the oldest to win a match at the ATP Finals.
Bopanna’s journey from battling fitness issues to becoming one of the best in the world is a fascinating tale of perseverance, grit and determination. The two-time Olympian, with worn-out cartilage in his knees, secured a direct entry to the Paris 2024 draw because of his sub-world No. 10 ranking by the cutoff date.
Having secured the quota, Bopanna had the option of choosing his partner for his Summer Games adventure in the French capital and eventually opted to go with N Sriram Balaji.
