Carlos Alcaraz supporters will be growing anxious about his participation in the ATP Finals in Turin.
The Spaniard was beaten in straight sets by Casper Ruud yesterday as the Norwegian beat Alcaraz for the first time in his career.
The 6-1, 7-5 victory wasn’t really part of the script for the ATP Finals and he’s now desperate for a win over Andrey Rublev.
Alcaraz left practice earlier than scheduled on Tuesday and that will get tongues wagging over whether or not he can play tomorrow.
Juan Carlos Ferrero – Alcaraz’s coach – has been forced to confirm why the practice was cancelled and things aren’t looking good.
Jamie Delgado is the coach of the first alternate player Grigor Dimitrov and now he’s made a claim on the whole Alcaraz situation.
It would appear as though the 21-year-old is going to be just fine for his match with Rublev due to take place tomorrow.
Delgado is the coach of Dimitrov and he’s been preparing his player just in case Alcaraz can’t make his second match.
But he does expect that the reigning French Open and Wimbledon champion will take his place on the court.
He told Sky Sports Tennis: “I think he will.
“From my understanding, he came to have a light hit and didn’t feel that great. But he has got his warm-up booked for tomorrow and the plan is to play.
“Grigor will be ready, but I kind of hope Carlos plays for the event.”
The Spaniard playing at 75% might be able to battle his way to the final of this event and he will be hoping he doesn’t have to pull out.
Alcaraz shows unbelievable spirit when he’s playing tennis and he will hope to shake off whatever it is he’s feeling.
Having lost his first match, Alcaraz will want to right some wrongs and get back to winning ways to keep his hopes of reaching the last four alive.
It’s interesting that Delgado thinks he will play tomorrow and now for his supporters, there will be an anxious wait to see just how healthy he is ahead of the match.
