Diego Schwartzman has faced many opponents throughout his career but he named one as the most intimidating to face.
For the past 15 years the Argentine has gained fans for the effort he put forth on the court as he maximised his talents.
The 32-year-old is preparing to retire from the sport in February 2025 in front of his home fans in Argentina.
In the months since announcing plans to hang up his racket, the former top 10 player has been reflecting on his impressive career.
Diego Schwartzman won four titles throughout his career and he will hope to add one more before retiring early next season.
Throughout his career, the 2020 French Open semi-finalist has faced plenty of different players, ranging from powerful baseline players to big servers with precise volleys.
But there is one that he named as more intimidating than the others, even ahead of 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic.
“Let’s choose one of the new guys. I think Sinner,” Schwartzman told the ‘Nothing Major’ podcast. “I played him a few times.
“He was not even top 10 yet and I was saying ‘come on, what is this guy?’ Sliding, power, movements. Everything. I was saying… scary.
“It’s crazy. We played against Novak, Roger and Rafa. These guys are GOAT’s. But Sinner and Alcaraz, what they do with their body is crazy.”
Schwartzman has faced Jannik Sinner, the reigning Australian Open and US Open champion, on four occasions.
It is easy to see why he named the Italian as the most intimidating opponent, as Schwartzman suffered defeat each time they played.
In fact, the former World number eight has not even taken a set off Sinner. The pair have played on each surface, but Schwartzman just did not have an answer for the 23-year-old’s game.
In their most recent meeting at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, Sinner claimed a tight first set before sealing a 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 win.
