The numbers are in: The Armada Education Foundation raised more than $25,000 at the Dick Enberg Memorial Golf Classic again this year.
Named in honor of the nationally renowned sportscaster and Armada Class of 1952 alumnus, the annual gathering took place Aug. 4 at Timberwood Golf Club in Ray Township.
Although the event’s namesake died in 2017, Dick Enberg’s legacy of promoting education lives on through the annual fundraising event, AEF Executive Director Linda Lyons said.
“Unwavering support from area businesses and community members, along with staff from Armada Area Schools, and AHS alumni, make our golf outing a success every year,” she added. “On behalf of the AEF Board of Trustees, I’d like to give special recognition to our 2024 Platinum Sponsors — Obry Brick and Landscape, Kaltz Excavating and Fresh Aire Mechanical — as well as the many other sponsors, prize donors, golfers and volunteers who made this year’s event a huge success.”
A donated vacation package at a private home in the Sevierville, Tennessee, area was the major prize for this year’s raffle, adding over $7,000 in revenue to the day’s bottom line.
Proceeds from the 2024 golf outing will support grant requests from teachers at Armada Area Schools to provide their students with enhanced educational experiences that would otherwise not be possible.
The AEF Board of Trustees has allocated $35,000 for grants in the 2024-2025 school year. Grant recipients and award amounts will be determined at the AEF Board of Trustees meeting in December, Lyons noted.
Planning has already begun for the 2025 Dick Enberg Memorial Golf Classic. As plans are finalized, information will be shared via email, local news outlets and the AEF’s Facebook page.
