Frankie Dettori, who is continuing to recover from a
separated shoulder, will miss his rides this weekend in anticipation of a
follow-up examination by an orthopedist early next week.
“(He) sees Dr. Steve O’Brien on Monday morning,” Dettori’s
agent Ron Andersen said in a text message to Horse Racing Nation. “We
will know more.”
Dettori injured his right shoulder in a gate accident before
the start of the last race of Thursday’s Belmont at the Big A card at Aqueduct.
He was dismounted from once-raced 2-year-old Pretty Liza, who is owned by Taven
Rodríguez and trained by Rudy Rodríguez. The filly was walked back to her barn,
and Dettori was taken by ambulance to Jamaica Hospital in New York where he was
treated and since released.
Eleven rides that Dettori had booked for Saturday and Sunday
at Aqueduct will be reassigned to other riders. The Grade 3 Noble Damsel is
among them. Dettori had been paired with 7-2 favorite Ocean Club. Trainer Jack Sisterson said Ricardo Santana Jr. will be the substitute.
Two stakes assignments Monday at Finger Lakes look uncertain
at best for Dettori.
