The move by Logistics Insight Corp., announced in a required filing last month with the state’s Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, is expected to mean the elimination of 352 positions.
Layoffs are planned to start Feb. 18.
Crain’s Detroit last year reported that the auto parts warehousing and logistics facility serves Stellantis and is affiliated with Moroun-owned Universal Logistics. A local union president told Crain’s at the time that Stellantis had been seeking to shift work to a nonunion operator to cut costs.
The state filing references a collective bargaining agreement between the company and Teamsters Local 299, saying it would honor transfer rights in conjunction with the union contract but that bumping rights do not exist.
A Stellantis spokesperson was asked for comment. Messages seeking comment were left for company and union officials.
