Watson signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Red Wings on Monday and was placed on waivers by the team.
Drafted by the Nashville Predators in the first round of the 2010 NHL Draft, Watson spent last season playing for the Tampa Bay Lightning, collecting two goals and two assists in 33 regular season games.
Over the duration of his 10 years in the NHL, Watson has played for the Predators, Lightning and the Ottawa Senators. In 515 career NHL regular season games, he has put up 60 goals and 58 assists for 118 points.
As Watson joins the Griffins, this will be his first time seeing AHL action since the 2018-19 season with the Milwaukee Admirals.
