A deputy with the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force was shot in the parking lot of a shopping center in southwest Houston, authorities confirm.
The U.S. Marshals told KPRC 2’s Bryce Newberry the deputy was shot at 9333 Stella Link Road at around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The shooting occurred in the parking lot of a shopping center that includes a Dollar Tree and a meat market.

T. Michael O’Connor, the U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Texas, confirmed to KPRC 2’s Robert Arnold the deputy was a member of the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. The deputy has not been identified, but KPRC 2 confirmed that he is male.
His team was serving a warrant on a violent offender in the parking lot. The subject of the warrant opened fire from his car, and the deputy was shot.
The deputy was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. His condition cannot be confirmed at this time.
The fugitive fled the scene on foot and remains on the run. Officials are asking the public to avoid the area.
