SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Some families had the chance to spend time with police officers on Saturday while getting in some much-needed Christmas shopping at the same time.
The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department held its annual Christmas with Deputies program for the fourth year.
Nominations came from teachers and school counselors for families that would benefit from the assistance.
“Shopping was amazing. We had so many great families this year. We actually had 13 different families come out and shop with us. We also were able to go and walk around Walmart and help them choose out presents that maybe they wouldn’t have chosen before,” said Detective Rachel Abbas. “The kids are just great. We actually had some that didn’t even want gifts for themselves, they picked out gifts for their family members or their siblings. It was just so nice that they could give back to their own families as well.”
After shopping, the families were joined by the officers for lunch at the Crooks Community Center.
