Holger Rune suffered Friday evening a devastating defeat for Denmarks chances of beating Serbia in the Davis Cup as he lost 6-2, 3-6, 1-6 to Hamad Medjedovic.
Medjedovic’s win gives Serbia a 2-0 before Saturday´s remaining matches.
Denmark will find it more than difficult to win the Davis Cup match against Serbia.
After Friday’s singles in the Royal Arena, Serbia leads 2-0, even though Denmark was in a winning position in both Friday’s singles matches.
Now Denmark are forced to win all three remaining matches to book their ticket to the next stage of the tournament.
In the second singles-match on Friday, Holger Rune looked like a certain winner after the first set, but then he completely surrencered all control against the world number 94, Hamad Medjedovic.
Rune won the first set 6-2, but collapsed completely in the next two, which he lost 3-6, 1-6 in front of nearly 10,000 spectators.
The 21-year-old Danish star seemed devoid of any spirit when he faced adversity in the match. Despite enjoying plenty of support in Copenhagen he showed no fighting spirit when the going got tough and once Medjedovic had seized the initiative in the match, he never gave it back.
