Denmark were behind 0-2 against Serbia but completed a terrific comeback to win 3-2 in the Davis Cup as Elmer Møller won the decisive match against Hamed Medjedovic 1-6, 6-4, 6-3
Denmarks Davis Cup team on Saturday completed one of the greatest comebacks in Danish sports history in front of just over 10,000 spectators in the Royal Arena.
After Friday’s two singles, Serbia led 2-0, but Frederik Løchte Nielsen’s team turned the tide with three wins on Saturday.
According to the Danish Tennis Association, it is the first time ever that Denmark turns a 0-2 deficit into a 3-2 win in the traditional Davis Cup tournament.
21-year-old Elmer Møller, who is number 149 in the world rankings, completed the comeback by beating world number 94, Hamad Medjedovic, in three sets.
However, it otherwise looked like Serbia was on well on their way towards winning the decisive match, as Medjedovic had won the first set 6-1 and even broken Møller´s to 1-0 in the second set.
But then Møller got going and won the last two sets 6-4 and 6-3 in in front of an ecstatic crowd in Copenhagen.
