In an interview with Tamron Hall, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said there are teams he “won’t allow” his son Shedeur to play for in the NFL. He said he doesn’t have teams he necessarily prefers draft his son, but said there are some he wouldn’t like to see do so.

Shedeur Sanders is one of the top prospects in this year’s NFL Draft after a career year at Colorado, helping lead the Buffaloes’ turnaround to a 9-4 record. He led the nation with a 74% completion percentage while totaling 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns to cement himself as a likely Top-5 pick.

But as the draft conversation continued, rumors and reports swirled about whether Deion Sanders had teams he preferred draft his son – and he shot them down. However, when it comes to franchises he doesn’t want to select Shedeur, Coach Prime said there are “a couple.”

“It’s not like that,” Sanders said. “It’s not who I would like for him to play for. It’s a couple of teams that I won’t allow him to play for. So it’s not like that. But this is my profession. I know what’s behind the curtain. We ain’t got to get back there for me to understand what’s behind the curtain and what’s not prominent for my son. I’m not doing it.”

Sanders cited his time in the NFL and connections throughout the league. One of the greatest cornerbacks to play the game, he won two Super Bowls and was a six-time All-Pro selection as part of his Hall of Fame career.

That success, Deion Sanders said, will allow him to guide Shedeur through the pre-draft process and when he gets into the league. He’ll be there along the way to help point him in the right direction, if he needs.

“It’s almost like, you’ve got a child that’s going into an occupation that you already dominated in,” Coach Prime said. “And you don’t think I’m not gonna sit there like a navigational system and tell him, ‘Take a right, right there. Take a left right there.’ … That’s what I’m called to do. That’s my son. I’m not finna let my son get down in no foolishness.”

Shedeur Sanders continues to generate buzz as a potential top pick, and the debate continues about whether he’ll go first or if Cam Ward will. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. ranked Sanders as the No. 1 quarterback in his updated rankings on Friday now that the draft order is in place. The Tennessee Titans currently hold the top pick.
