Venue: Swiss Tennis Arena, Biel, Switzerland
Surface: hard, indoor
Stricker – Martinez
Dominic Stricker has lost five straight matches. So far this season, Stricker has played four matches and has a record of losing 0-4. Two weeks ago in Melbourne, Dominic lost against Duckworth in straight sets. He loves to play on indoor courts. However, his form is terrible. The last match Martinez has played was also at the Australian Open, losing against Zverev in the second round. He is a clay-court specialist but plays well on fast courts like here in Switzerland. Pablo is now a better player than Stricker, and we expect him to get the first win for Spain.
Kym – Carballes Baena
Jerome Kym has lost four of his last five matches. So far this season, Jerom failed to qualify for the main draw tournament of the Australian Open and lost in the opening round of Challenger tournaments. Last week in Quimper, Kym lost in the opening round against Martineau in straight sets. Roberto Carballes Baena is a clay court specialist, but he had solid results on hard courts this season. Two weeks ago in Melbourne, Baena reached the third round of the Australian Open, losing against Tommy Paul in straight sets. We believe that Baena’s experience and current form will prevail in this matchup and get the second win for Spain.
Huesler/Stricker – Martinez/Munar
Huesler and Stricker played together last year in four matches and have a winning 3-1 record. They are solid doubles players. In 2021, they won their first ATP title together in Gstaad. Martinez and Munar mostly played on clay courts together. At the beginning of the season, the Spaniards played in Hong Kong, losing in the opening round. Their last match together was in Melbourne, losing in the third round of the Australian Open. We expect Huesler and Stricker to dominate in this match and get the first win for Switzerland.
Kym – Martinez
As previously mentioned, Kym is in terrible form right now. He is a Challenger Tour player who lacks experience at the highest level. On the other hand, Martinez is in solid form and has experience playing at the highest level. We expect Martinez to be a better player in this matchup due to his experience and get the third win for Switzerland.
Stricker – Carballes Baena
Dominic Stricker has been winless for three months. He played terribly at the beginning of the season. On the other hand, Baena faced one of the best players in the world and played well against them. We expect Roberto to dominate in this matchup and win easily.
According to the bookies, this will be a 50-50 matchup, but we disagree. The Spaniards have better singles players than Switzerland. Kym and Stricker are in terrible form, and we believe they will lose their singles matches against experienced Baena and Martinez.
That being said, Spain winning is a value bet.
