David Bakhtiari loves to cause chaos on social media and keep fans guessing.
It’s almost exactly a year since the former Green Bay Packers All-Pro posted a cryptic tweet about remembering the date, November 8, 2023.
Bakhtiari hasn’t played since the Packers’ season-opening victory over the Chicago Bears over a year ago, but he isn’t planning to retire. In June, Bakhtiari told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that he wanted to play with the “next Super Bowl MVP,” leading many to believe he was hinting at the Kansas City Chiefs.
It’s hard to bet against Patrick Mahomes, the winner of the previous two Super Bowl MVP awards and three of the past five.
Bakhtiari is at it again, adding more mystery over his NFL future.
Bakhtiari told Mahomes in a tweet that he would “come play left tackle” for the Chiefs if the Colorado Buffaloes defeated Texas Tech.
Packaged as a joke with a layer of truth? Who knows?
Is it a coincidence that he is tweeting about a potential NFL return on November 9, 2024, a year after his cryptic post? Whether intentional or not, it has left Packers and Chiefs fans wondering whether this hinted at an upcoming deal.
Texas Tech didn’t win, but that’s beside the point. Is Bakhtiari ready to play? Is he actively searching for a team? Could he join the Chiefs? They are fair questions to ask, and fans are definitely not just overreacting. Right?
And let’s be honest, it would make total sense for Kansas City.
The Chiefs have a left tackle problem. They started the season with rookie Kingsley Suamataia but quickly abandoned that experiment by pivoting to second-year Wanya Morris in Week 3. Plan B isn’t going too well, either. Per PFF, Morris has allowed 19 pressures and three sacks in just six games, and his 57.7 pass-blocking grade ranks 79th among 121 tackles.

With lofty ambitions of winning a third straight Super Bowl, the Chiefs know they need better from the most important position along the offensive line.
Enter Bakhtiari? If he’s healthy, it’s a no-brainer for the Chiefs. While injuries have kept Bakhtiari off the field, it hasn’t limited his All-Pro play when he’s out there. He allowed zero sacks or quarterback hits in the 13 games after the injury. If healthy, he can help any team.
Let’s look at the evidence. Bakhtiari said he wants to play with the next Super Bowl MVP, and Mahomes is a pretty good bet. Kansas City needs a left tackle, and Bakhtiari is outright tweeting Mahomes about playing for the Chiefs.
Has the Packers’ five-time All-Pro found his new home, or are we just massively overreacting to a joke on Twitter?
Either is possible, and Bakhtiari undoubtedly loves the beautiful mystery he has created.
