TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The College of Southern Idaho men’s and women’s basketball teams each picked up their second wins of the season, both in upset fashion over top-five teams.
Ladies first and the Golden Eagles and Fighting Gila Monsters of Eastern Arizona were knotted at 28, but pulled away in the second half thanks to Kennedy Gillette and Samara Morrow who had 14 and 13 second half points respectively to power the Golden Eagles to a 66-58 win.
On the men’s side, CSI hosting No. 3 Dayton State College, things were also square at half, this time at 38 points, but in the second Isaac Hawkins and Gerry Guerrero combined for 26 of CSI’s 51 second half points as the men also move to 2-0 with an upset win 89-81 over the Falcons.
The CSI women will travel to Niceville, Florida for two games next weekend, including a Saturday matchup with No. 2 Northwest Florida State College.
The CSI men will be hosting one of the premier junior college basketball tournaments in the entire country “The Battle for the Boot” where two of the nation’s top three teams will be in action in the three day tournament beginning Thursday, November 7.
