Ahead of the final preseason game between New England and Washington, Jayden Daniels earned some high praise from Cris Collinsworth on the broadcast for NBC.
Collinsworth spoke about Commanders’ QB1 during the opening to Sunday’s last matchup of the preseason in the NFL. In his opinion, Daniels is about to be one of the best players in the entire league.
“It doesn’t hurt if you bring in the Heisman Trophy winner, right? Jayden Daniels has simply dazzled since he has gotten to Washington,” said Collinsworth. “Mike, I have to say – I think he is going to be a superstar in this league.”
Earlier this week, Daniels officially became the starting quarterback in the nation’s capital. He did so after being the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft by Washington back in April.

Daniels will now not take the field in tonight’s finale against the Patriots. This comes after he went 12-15 (80%) for 123 yards in their pair of prior games. He also rushed three times for 16 yards and his lone score of the preseason.
Daniels has had an incredible last year when pairing this with his final season at LSU. He became one of the top prospects in this last draft after posting nearly 5,000 total yards and 50 total touchdowns en route to winning The Heisman Trophy. That ended his five-year collegiate career where he put up over 16,000 total yards and scored 124 touchdowns over two with the Tigers following three at Arizona State.
Daniels has created a lot of justifiable energy like this around Washington and the NFL ahead of his rookie year. He’ll get his first chance to start living up to it in two weeks when the Commanders open their season in Tampa Bay.
Hello, Jayden Daniels.
The Washington Commanders rookie didn’t waste any time making his presence known as a pro on his first preseason drive as scored his first touchdown. Daniels kept it on an option play and ran it four yards for a score to put the Commanders on top early against the New York Jets.
After he found the end zone, Daniels went to the crowd and then found his mom to give her the ball.
It was quite a start for the No. 2 overall pick. He completed two of three passes for 43 yards on his opening drive to go with the three-yard rushing score.
