They team lifted the trophy after defeating their Sri Lankan counterparts, who constituted the team named One Family. With yesteryear heroes like Venkatesh Prasad, Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan, among others, the India team defeated the Sri Lankan team, which included names like Aravinda De Silva, Muthiah Muralitharan, Arjuna Ranatunga and Chaminda Vaas, by six runs.
The event was a ‘Cricket for Cause’ friendly match hosted at Sathya Sai Grama near Bengaluru by Sri Madhusudan Sai Global Humanitarian Mission. Former Indian Cricketing legend GR Viswanath and Sri Madhusudan Sai led the event.
The OWOF cup, in its second year currently, is aimed at supporting Sri Madhusudan Sai Global Humanitarian Mission, a media statement said.
Madhusudan Sai said, “The One World One Family Cup is not merely a match, it is a collective effort by the SMSGHM mission and the cricketing fraternity to uplift the lives and livelihoods of millions who are deprived of even essentials like education, health and nutrition. We intend to make a significant difference by spearheading several such novel initiatives that ultimately serve the cause of humanity.”At the event, Sai also announced the setting up of the Vishwanath-Gavaskar Cricket Academy for Boys at Sri Sathya Sai Grama, Muddenahalli. The cricket academy for boys will be a free-of-cost residential one where students will be selected on merit basis and receive world class training and truly signify the two legends it is named after.
