Cricket Ireland, supported by Sport Ireland and Sport Northern Ireland, will host a ‘Conversations in Championing Female Leaders’ conference at Croke Park in Dublin on the morning of Saturday, 14 September.
Coinciding with the Ireland V England Women’s T20i match at Clontarf Cricket Club that afternoon, the event will explore the growing momentum behind women’s sports and discuss practical ways to elevate visibility and opportunities for women and girls in sports.
The conference will dive into key themes such as the impact of targeted programmes on participation and leadership, the importance of strategic sponsorships, the value of inclusive broadcasting and reporting, and the essential role of male allyship in promoting women’s sports.
The event, which will be MC’d by sports presenter Gráinne McElwain, features a range of panelists from cricket and beyond, including Orla Stevens, Managing Director of Certa; sports broadcaster Ryle Nugent, CEO of Premier Sports and former Group Head of Sport at RTÉ; Mohammed Mahomed, Co-Founder at Her Sport; and Kelli O’Keeffe, Managing Director of Teneo Sport and Sponsorships – among many others.
“We’re thrilled to unite voices from across the sports industry to discuss the challenges and opportunities in women’s sports,” said Elaine Nolan, Director of Strategy and Growth at Cricket Ireland.
“The growth of women’s sport is undeniable, and in cricket it’s no different. Participation growth has led to women and girls now accounting for 22% of our player base across Ireland, up from 9% in 2013.”
“In addition to people from cricket and wider sport in Ireland attending on the day, we are delighted to host female leaders from International Cricket Council (ICC) Europe with attendees from Cricket Scotland, Cricket Finland, Cricket Sweden, and England & Wales Cricket Board.”
“Cricket Ireland is committed to enhancing visibility and creating meaningful pathways for female athletes and leaders. While we’ve made progress, there’s still more to be done, and that’s what this event is about—sparking discussions on how we can build a more equitable and thriving sports landscape for women.”
