ClubTFE members sold out our public Moraine event this week. Members get a 24-hour jump to register for our events, in addition to access to a handful of member-only events for smaller groups at courses around the country. Next week will also be busy in the Club with the hangout, a course profile on an Australian beaut, a full Design Notebook coming to your inboxes, an event opening at a primo NJ spot (see below for details), and maybe a little extra something from Garrett’s forthcoming Designing Golf episode. Join ClubTFE here.
What’s the deal with Brooks Koepka? After a relatively middling, or below average by his standards, majors season, the Fried Egg podcast took the temperature on Brooksy. It’s harder to truly gauge where he’s at playing on LIV, but could we even do that on the PGA Tour when all he seemed to care about was the majors. Andy is joined by Brentley Romine of Golf Channel and our own Joseph LaMagna to discuss the legend of Brooks: past, present, and future.
Checking in on Brooks Koepka
The Shotgun Start reveled in a “great” week for pro golf, from a Rory win at Pebble Beach to the Phoenix Open influencer party to the cornucopia of amusements that was the opening of the LIV season in Riyadh. They also hit on another TGL blowout, the Tour going to meet with Trump, and closed it out with a debate on chicken wings – have they gone too mainstream???

It was an exceptional week in newsletter-land thanks to Adam Woodard, Joseph LaMagna, and Meg Adkins. In professional golf, we led with Rory’s win at Pebble Beach, then a TGL blowout, the LPGA’s pace of play news, Luke Clanton’s chase for a card in Phoenix, and some surreal night golf scenes from Riyadh in the LIV season opener.

Joseph LaMagna’s Wednesday column continues to be a must-read. Don’t take my word for it. Twitter user Jeff Bruder chimed in with, “I absolutely love these Pro Golf Updates. Must read every time.” This week, JLM checks in on his tiering of the best players in the world, with a clear No. 1 still and Rory making moves following his rousing PGA Tour opener. He also digs into the state of Rickie, who will be getting his second sponsor’s exemption into a Signature event next week.

Hey … Tiger Woods is back. He will make his PGA Tour debut at the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines next week. Tiger obviously has so much history at Torrey but it seemed unlikely that we would ever see him play it in a competitive setting again. But he will give it a go, pending health, which we know is dicey. Torrey was the very place his glutes shut off.

Each week, I think we hit the tippy disastrous top of finding ghastly golf holes over on Design Disasters. Joseph LaMagna upped the ante again this week with absolute bangers across the board. I think one Colin Montgomerie fiendish creation in Dubai might take the cake. Another highlight is an appearance from PJ Clark about his college course at Syracuse. Please check his attire from his college days that appears in the middle of this one.
I also enjoyed PJ’s photoshop job of the Boston tabloid backpages after a disastrous blowout loss from Boston Common in the TGL.
Fried Egg Events are flying off the shelves. This week, we launched our event at Moraine Country Club in Ohio and Club TFE members stormed the store to secure the spots in the event during the 24-hour early access period they receive as a member perk. You can still secure a spot on the waitlist for your chance to get moved into the field over the next few months.
Next week, registration will open for our event at Essex County Country Club (August 11). This event opens to Club TFE early access on Tuesday and to the public on Wednesday. In addition to the day of the event at ECCC, participants will also have the opportunity to visit Watchung Valley Golf Club on August 10 and Mountain Ridge Country Club on August 12 while spots are in stock. If a three-day trip to see some of the best golf in New Jersey appeals to you, make sure to be ready to register this week.
Visit our Event Hub for more information. And consider joining Club TFE to get access earlier than the general public.
We released a new style of hat with a new vendor, Sandlot Goods, this week.
There are still a handful of Andy hoodies and Handcrafted headcovers available from our last release.
We’ll have some new items coming this week to the shop.
Thank you for your continued support of all we do. This was another busy week with travel and plenty of news, and we’re already dialed in to bring plenty next week, especially in the Club and on a variety of design subjects.
