Fine all-round performance by Khush Kumar Gupta (70 runs and 3 wickets) went in vain as the International Public School (IPS) XI lost to the CPGNSA XI by 38 runs in the final in the inaugural edition of the Cricket Club Ludhiana Tournament for boys (U-14), organised at the Grewal Farm House Cricket ground, Sector 32, here on Chandigarh road.
Eight teams — five from Ludhiana and one each from Jalandhar, Ropar and Sangrur — took part in this tournament in which matches of 50-overs a side were played.
Batting first, after winning the toss, the CPGNSA XI scored 185 run in 43 overs with Jaiveer contributing 80 runs. For the IPS XI, Khush Kumar scalped three victims.
Chasing the target, the IPS XI’s innings folded at 147 runs in which Khush Kumar made 70 runs but that was not enough for his side to achieve the target. Nitish Kumar captured four wickets and helped his team lift the winner’s trophy.
Dr MS Mahal, former international umpire, was the chief guest of the final. Arun Passi, Harminder Singh and Rakesh Sethi, match referees, PCA were the guests of honour on this occasion.
Before the match, two-minute silence was observed in the memory of late coaches and players from Ludhiana.
Jaiveer and Utkarsh Sharma were adjudged the best batsman and best bowler, respectively, while Khush Kumar Gupta was declared the player of the tournament. Yuvraj Singh and Anshuman Tiwari received the best fielder and best wicketkeeper awards, respectively.
