The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants set a streaming record during their Thursday Night Football matchup on Amazon Prime this week.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the game averaged 16.22 million views, which marked an all-time high for Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime. Amazon also said the 20-15 win for Dallas was the most-streamed NFL regular-season game in history.

The streaming record for any game still belongs to last year’s wild-card matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins, which garnered nearly 28 million viewers on Peacock in January.

Viewership of the NFL as a whole has grown in recent years. ESPN reported in January that the league averaged 17.9 million viewers in 2023, which was up seven percent from the 2022 season. Last season’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers was not only the most-watched NFL game in league history, but the most-watched telecast in history with 123.4 million average viewers across all platforms.

Looking ahead at the upcoming Thursday Night Football matchups, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take on the Atlanta Falcons next week before the San Francisco 49ers play the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 10.

While there have been criticisms of the NFL for switching to streaming services versus traditional broadcasts for Thursday Night Football games, the move has proved to still deliver high ratings, with Thursday night’s record being yet another example.

Along with Amazon Prime and Peacock, Netflix has entered the NFL streaming game as the company will exclusively stream two games on Christmas Day. Paramount+ also streams all games televised on CBS as Peacock does with games televised on NBC.
