Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina first-year head women’s golf coach Anne Marie Covar has added incoming freshman, Mia Andrade of Chapin, S.C., to her 2025-26 roster during this fall’s signing period.
Andrade has earned six varsity letters to date at Chapin High where she is a five-time All-Region selection and a three-time South Carolina 5-A All-State honoree. Last season, she finished as the individual runner-up at the Congaree Match Play event. Also, she had an impressive even-par finish with rounds of 76, 69, and 71 at the National High School Invitational held at PGA Frisco in Texas.
Andrade shared co-medalist plaudits at the South Carolina 5-A Lower State Championship held at Coastal Carolina, helping guide Chapin High to the Class 5-A Division II championship. Led by Andrade, the Eagles overcame an eight-stroke deficit on the back nine to win by five strokes, thanks partly to her round of 73. Her career-low round as an amateur came after firing a 5-under-par round at the 2023 Palmetto Preview.
Andrade posted three Top 10 finishes on the South Carolina Junior Golf Association (SCJGA) tour from November 2023 through February 2024. She took third at the 2023 CPGA Charles Tilghman Jr. Championship and was fourth at the 2024 Jim Ferree Junior Invitational.
The daughter of Shelia and Anthony Andrade, Mia plans on majoring in business management and marketing.
Covar and the Catamounts concluded the fall portion of their 2024-25 schedule with a fourth-place finish at “The Robbie,” hosted by Lipscomb back in late October. WCU’s five-event spring which culminates with the 2025 Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship at the Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, S.C., resumes in late February with the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational hosted by SoCon-foe, Mercer. WCU’s spring also includes a return trip to Puerto Rico (March 4-6) and a pair of instate tournaments in Raleigh (March 21-22) and at Mimosa Hills (March 31-April 1) in Morganton.
