GREEN BAY (WBAY) – With roughly nine months until Draft Day 2025 in Green Bay, Fire Chief Matthew Knott with Green Bay Metro Fire isn’t just confident, he’s enthusiastic to welcome hundreds of thousands of football fans to Titletown.
“Just seeing the scope and the magnitude of this, we are super excited to bring this here to town,” Chief Knott said.
Action 2 News spoke with Chief Knott, Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich, and other city officials first-hand in Detroit in April as the group experienced the 2024 NFL Draft in preparation for 2025. Three months later, the chief is grateful for the experience gained in Michigan as tentative plans for Green Bay continue to take shape.
“It looks like we’re going to have some large open areas,” said Chief Knott, explaining the tentative draft footprint which has yet to be finalized by the NFL. “We’re going to be able to put a lot of people in there very safely; orderly where people can go out and get refreshments and come back to their spots and do whatever they need to do. It seems like it’s going to be a lot more orderly fashion than what we’ve seen in previous events, and probably similar to what we saw in Kansas City.”
Chief Knott says the draft itself will be staffed with Extra personnel, allowing Green Bay Metro Fire to focus on normal responsibilities throughout the city.
“Nothing will change on our street side,” Chief Knott said. “We’re used to working large-scale events. We have the resources in place to make that happen. It’s just a matter of us plugging in the right people at the right places and developing a great product.”
A product the Packers organization is confident it will deliver.
“We’re excited about the draft, certainly as an event, and with the professionals that we’re going to have involved, we know it’s going to be a safe event and also be a great experience for everyone coming and going.”
Chief Knott is grateful for the opportunity to help facilitate the event.
“It’s a very exciting time for us,” Chief Knott said. “Very exciting time for our entire community and something that we’re going to be very proud of hosting this once we’re completed.”
