Ten individuals, including a councillor, Akshay Dagla, were caught red-handed while gambling inside the boundary walls of a cinema near the abandoned rail crossing on Abohar-Sriganganagar Road last night.
The Jawaharnagar police received reports of illegal gambling and alcohol consumption at the long-closed cinema. Acting on this information, a police team conducted a raid and arrested the following individuals: Mohinder Nayak, Chirag Doda, Karan Arora, Harish Dhuria, Deepak Kitty, Gaurav Nirvan, Gurpreet Singh, Shubham Khungar, Sahil Wadhwa and Akshay Dagla. They seized Rs 12,000 in gambling money from the group and registered a case against them under the Gambling Prevention Act.
In a separate operation, police arrested four individuals in the Purani Abadi area for gambling. Sushil, Irfan, Bhupinder and Harbhajan were caught at a school ground, where Rs 23,255 was seized.
