MUSKEGON, MI – The high school basketball season is often filled with a combination of down-to-the-wire finishes and lopsided results.
The West Michigan Conference gave us more of the latter on Thursday night.
The Ludington and Mason County Central boys’ basketball teams won convincingly in their league matchups, while the Hart girls’ basketball team defeated Hesperia by a whopping 81 points.
Below is a recap of how each Muskegon-area basketball team fared on Wednesday and Thursday night.

Cole VanderHaag finished with 20 points, three rebounds, and five steals to lead the Spartans, while Trent Hawke added 13 points and three rebounds and Jaxon Munoz had five assists, two steals, and three rebounds.
“Overall, it was a really nice team effort,” said Mason County Central head coach Chris VanderHaag. “We got some balanced scoring tonight with some really good minutes from Latrell Williams, Tyler Norton and Kyle Peters.
“Cole and Trent each had solid games. It was nice seeing them both scoring in double figures. When that happens, it usually means good things for us. Jaxon Munoz really shined tonight finding our shooters. Shelby is a scrappy team. We knew they were not going to go away. Leighton Belasco had a nice game for them.”
