FAYETTEVILLE, N.Y. — After running the Four Seasons Golf & Ski Center in Fayetteville for more than 50 years, its owner, John Goodfellow, said it’s time to say goodbye.
The property was officially listed for sale on Dec. 18, 2024 for $2.5 million.
Goodfellow told CNY Central that owning the popular property has been a lot of work. He said he wasn’t sure how much longer he could keep doing it. He said, “It’s getting tougher and tougher.”
For those who enjoy the slopes, saying goodbye will be hard.
Josh Chubb of Dewitt told CNY Central that the Four Seasons Golf & Ski Center helped him make memories.
“My one favorite picture of my son, it was when he was 8-years-old wearing snow goggles,” Chubb recalled. “It was the first time he went down the hill.”
Saying goodbye is difficult for Goodfellow, too. He said the moment is bittersweet. He told CNY Central that while he looks forward to having his own free time, he does worry about the community. Those who grew up going to the Four Seasons shared similar thoughts with CNY Central.
Brooke Lamphere of Fayetteville-Manilus said the center closing is going to make enjoying the cold season a little bit harder.
“It definitely closes off opportunity for winter sports,” said Lamphere. “Like kids being active, going out, connecting, especially in this time of low connectivity.”
Mac Davies of Fayetteville-Manlius called it a “pretty big inconvenience.” He said, “It’s something that we like to do as a family.”
Goodfellow said he debated for several years about when would be the right time to step away. He said he ultimately hopes that whoever purchases the property honors its legacy and continues to operate it as a center for skiing.
“If this place were to close it would hurt the community and Central New York,” he said.
The Four Seasons Golf & Ski Center will remain open through the first few weeks of March, which is the typical time it closes for skiing and prepares for golf in the summer.
