BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Several community members participated in the annual ‘Swing United’ Golf Scramble at the Hobson Grove Park Golf and Driving Range on Monday.
“We did it as a fundraiser for Bowling Green Special Olympics in our local program… also to kind of be able to let our athletes that like golf be able to come out and play golf with other people,” said Madison Duncan, BGPR adaptive recreation supervisor.
Teams comprised of four players, three members of the community and a Special Olympics athlete, played nine holes, competed in a skills challenge, and had the opportunity to play in a Chilp to Win game.
“They can pay $5 for a like opportunity to chip, and then they get to win prizes. I know this year we have some water bottles, some gift cards, old shirts from past years,” Duncan said. “We have some basketballs and a bunch of different fun gifts and prizes that people have donated.”
She added that the best part of the event is seeing how much fun everyone has.
“Our athletes get to come out, they get to ride in the cart, and they get to go out onto the holes and then come back and do skills and show off how well they can play golf,” Duncan said.
Before teeing off, they were treated to a light breakfast provided by Chick-fil-A and donuts.
Jordyn Trimble, with Abound Credit Union, one of this year’s sponsors, said one of the reasons the company decided to be a sponsor was because they enjoy giving back to the community in any way they can.
“This is a program and an organization that is near and dear to my heart,” Trimble said. “So we get to kind of come out here and support every year, and we’re just really blessed to be able to do that and to be able to, have fun, engage with the community, especially in this community, and help them build their program.”
