The Commanders are gunning for it.

Off to a surprising 7-2 start in the first season of quarterback Jayden Daniels and head coach Dan Quinn, Washington has made a big trade.

The Commanders are acquiring star defensive back Marshon Lattimore from the Saints, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero first reported Tuesday.

The Commanders are trading a third-round, fourth-round and sixth-round pick in the deal, while also getting back a fifth-rounder from the Saints, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Lattimore has made four Pro Bowls and was the 2017 Defensive Rookie of the Year.

The Chiefs were also rumored to be in the running to potentially acquire Lattimore, who is signed for two more seasons after 2024.

The Commanders have already surpassed their preseason over-under total of six-and-a-half wins, and have a half-game lead over the Eagles for the top spot in the NFC East.

Earlier this week, Quinn discussed the looming trade deadline.

“At the core of the program, it’s led through competition and trying to compete to become as good as we can be. That’s really where it starts, what’s best for the team?” he said. “If you stay through to that even in the most difficult questions, you always keep that in mind. It’s a factor for sure, but at the end of it, it’s still about competing.”

Meanwhile, the Saints are reeling after an impressive 2-0 start turned into a seven-game losing streak.

The team fired head coach Dennis Allen on Monday.

The issues compound given that after years of kicking the proverbial can down the road the team is already nearly $70 million over the projected salary cap for next season.
