Despite heading into halftime with zero points on Sunday night, Minnesota walked away with its sixth win of the season.
Sam Darnold tossed all three of his touchdown passes in the second half as the Vikings beat the Colts 21-13 in Week 9’s edition of “Sunday Night Football.” Both sides had a slow offensive start in the inter-conference matchup, but as the Vikings relied on superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson to move the chains and capitalized on their red zone opportunities in the final two quarters.
Jefferson totaled seven receptions for a season-high 137 yards against Indianapolis, even mixing in a 22-yard completion to running back Aaron Jones and securing the football on an onside kick to seal the win.

Using Jefferson’s do-it-all night to eventually break through offensively, the Vikings’ defense continued to prove itself as one of the league’s best on Sunday as well. Minnesota totaled three sacks and an interception against Joe Flacco, who was starting in his first game since second-year Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson was benched.
Flacco finished 16-for-27 with 179 passing yards, no touchdowns, and an interception against the Vikings, and the Colts’ offense struggled to string together good plays. After Indianapolis used a scoop-and-score on a fumble from Darnold to score in the second quarter, it never found the end zone after that.
For the Vikings, Sunday’s victory put an end to their brief two-game losing streak after a 5-0 start to the season. Minnesota needed the bounce-back win to reclaim some momentum in a competitive NFC North division, and head coach Kevin O’Connell’s group will now prepare for a road game at Jacksonville in Week 10.
Meanwhile, the quarterback change didn’t do much for Indianapolis, which fell to 4-5 this season. The Colts still have significant questions to answer as they refocus ahead of next week’s matchup against the Bills.
