The journey ends here.
A college football season that started with 134 FBS teams, their eyes set on a first-of-its kind postseason and the College Football Playoff national championship trophy, has finally dwindled to two teams.
No. 7 Notre Dame (14-1) and No. 8 Ohio State (13-2) will go head-to-head Monday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta for the title of CFP national champions.

It is the ninth all-time meeting between the Irish and the Buckeyes, and the third consecutive year that both teams will meet up against each other.
Monday night’s championship game is full of storylines. Perhaps none is more notable than Ohio State and Notre Dame both needing to overcome historic upsets at different points of the regular season to make a run to the championship game.
What looked to be a potential season-ending loss to Michigan in the final week of the regular season — as it knocked Ohio State out of the Big Ten championship game and out of contention for a first-round bye — instead has turned into an impressive three-game reset for the Buckeyes. Ryan Day’s squad enters Monday’s national title game averaging 37 points in three CFP games, outscoring its opponents 111-52.
As for the Irish, who entered the season with a small margin of error to make the CFP to begin with (as they compete as an independent), they enter Monday night riding a 13-game win streak since their upset to Northern Illinois in Week 2. They were largely dominant vs. Indiana and Georgia in the first and quarterfinal rounds before outlasting No. 6 seed Penn State in the Orange Bowl.
