Survival was the theme for the ranked Big 12 teams during Week 8 of the 2024 college football season.
The week started with No. 13 BYU pulling off a last-minute comeback victory over Oklahoma State to keep alive its perfect season. The Cougars trailed for much of the game, but Darius Lassiter hauled in a 35-yard touchdown pass from Jake Retzlaff with 10 seconds remaining for the victory.
Elsewhere, No. 12 Iowa State managed to overcome a 14-point deficit to upend UCF. The Cyclones scored 11 fourth-quarter points, including the go-ahead touchdown with 30 seconds left, to defeat the Knights 38-35. No. 17 Kansas State was involved in a less-thrilling matchup, downing West Virginia 45-18 on a day in which quarterback Avery Johnson passed for three touchdowns and nearly 300 yards.

One unranked team that could make a move in the latest rankings is Deion Sanders-led Colorado. The Buffaloes dominated Arizona 34-7 in a road victory to move to 5-2 and 3-1 in Big 12 play. Two-way star Travis Hunter sat out the second half as a precaution after re-aggravating his shoulder injury.
