No bye weeks necessary.
After a rough-and-tumble three rounds of Bowl games, Ohio State and Notre Dame have advanced to the 2025 College Football Playoff Championship game.
The two football schools will meet in the winner-takes-all final on Monday, Jan. 20 at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
In order to get to the CFP Championship, Ryan Day’s No. 8 Buckeyes had to take down No. 9 Tennessee in the first round, No. 1 Oregon in the quarterfinals and No. 5 Texas in the semifinals. Star quarterback Will Howard completed 24-of-33 passes for 289 yards and a touchdown in the 28-14 semifinal victory.
“About a month ago, a lot of people counted us out [after the team lost to Michigan in the annual “The Game”]. And these guys went to work, this team, these leaders, the captains, the staff,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. “Everybody in the building believed. And because of that, I believe we won the game in the fourth quarter.”
No. 7 Notre Dame — who hasn’t lost since week two back in early September — defeated No. 10 Indiana, No. 2 Georgia and No. 6 Penn State to claw their way to the Championship. Their win over the Nittany Lions was a bit of a nailbiter as Riley Leonard and co. fought back from 10-3 deficit at halftime to come back and score a 27-24 victory.
“We found a way to make a play when it mattered the most,” Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman said. “In my opinion, great teams, great programs, find a way to do that.”

Dating back to 1935, Ohio State and Notre Dame have faced off just eight times. As of now, the Buckeyes hold a 6-2 advantage having won the last six matchups.
Their last showdown went down on Sept. 8, 2007; Ohio State came out victorious in a 17-14 thriller. OSU quarterback Kyle McCord threw for 240 yards in a game that came down to the wire.
Heading into the 2025 CFP Championship, Ohio State is considered the favorite over Notre Dame. “The line is set at 9.5 points on FanDuel, which mirrors other sports books, with the Buckeyes -410 favorites over the Fighting Irish,” the New York Post reported.
