Coconut Creek’s annual Butterfly Run, held on Sunday morning at Tradewinds Park, attracted around 600 runners of all ages and athletic levels.
The event, which took place on the park’s scenic pathways, combined the thrill of competition with a sense of community.
Evania Ferreira of Boca Raton took top honors, claiming first place in the women’s division.
“It was wonderful to win, but it takes a lot of training, dedication, and consistency to become a good runner,” Ferreira said after crossing the finish line.
The weather on the race day was clear yet humid, which didn’t deter participants. While some runners zoomed through the course, others took a more leisurely pace, walking and enjoying the event. Many participants added a whimsical touch to the race by wearing butterfly wings, adding to the festive atmosphere. At the finish line, food was provided so everyone could relax and enjoy breakfast together.
Anderson Nunes of Coconut Creek won first place in the men’s division. “This run was a lot of fun, and it was good to come in first place,” he said.
Stephen Davis of Boynton Beach earned second place in the men’s division, reflecting on his experience. “I enjoyed participating in the run, and it was good to get second place,” he said.
The entire Coconut Creek Commission participated in the event, with Commissioner Joshua Rydell noting that it was a positive way to bring the community together. “It’s great to see so many people come out for such a fun and meaningful event,” Rydell said.
Mayor Sandra Welch earned first place in the 75 to 78 female age category. “This was a fun and positive event for the community,” she said.
