American star Gauff has been handed a tricky Australian Open draw, although she enters the competition in fine form.

The 2023 US Open champion won the WTA Finals at the end of the 2024 season before helping the USA win the United Cup earlier this year.

But it is Sabalenka who boasts the best record in terms of the Australian Open, having won the competition for the past two years.

Jannik Sinner meanwhile won the Australian Open men’s singles in 2024, following that up with another Grand Slam success at the US Open.

And it is the ATP number one that both Sabalenka and Gauff have tipped to win the 2025 Australian Open.

Asked by Tennis Channel which man will lift the trophy, the Belarusian replied: “That’s a tough call… I’ll cheer for Jannik.”

And the American said: “Jannik Sinner. Defending champion and the way he was playing at ATP Finals last year was some great tennis so I’ll have to go with him.”

Sinner has been fortunate enough to avoid the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic in his half of the draw.

He may, however, need to make it past ATP stars such as Holger Rune, Alex de Minaur and Daniil Medvedev among others in order to come out on top.

But Sinner may be quietly confident of going all the way regardless of his opposition given his recent form on hard courts.

The Italian is a real force to behold on the surface, with off-field distractions perhaps his only issue at this moment in time.

Seven of his eight ATP titles in 2024 came on hard courts, on which Sinner finished the year with a 53-3 record.
