Clinton football has hired its new coach and didn’t have to search far.
The Arrows announced on Tuesday the promotion of Hamer Morgan as the program’s next coach. Morgan replaces John Carr, who left Clinton after one season to become the coach at Starkville.
“I am thankful and excited for the opportunity to lead this program and help these young men grow in not only football but also life,” Morgan said in a school release. “Here at Clinton, the player’s work ethic, toughness and resilience are second to none. I am ready to get to work and build on the traditions of Clinton Arrow football.”
Morgan served as the defensive coordinator and assistant coach at Clinton since 2015. Prior to his time with Clinton, he was the coach at Forest, leading the Bearcats to the playoffs from 2012-14.
“We wanted someone who wanted to lead our student athletes and someone who loved and cared for our kids,” athletic director Judd Boswell said. “We wanted someone who understood the importance and demand of the job as well as someone who wanted to be a part of the Clinton community.
“We are very excited and confident in coach Morgan and his plan for Clinton football. Coach Morgan has been a part of the Clinton community for over a decade and embraces the importance of the Job. He understands the demands of the job, conference, and expectations of the Clinton Public School District and will grow the program from this point forward.”
Clinton ended the 2024 season with a 4-6 record after finishing 1-9 in 2023 in MHSAA Class 7A.
