Guyan, WV-The Cleveland State men’s golf team posted a strong finish in the season-opening Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational. Cleveland State finished with an 8-under par team total to finish in fourth place. Cleveland State finished above its fellow Horizon League competitors in the tournament field and finished four shots shy of third-place Morehead State and five back of runner-up Longwood. Host Marshall won the event with a team score of 28-under par. Cleveland State posted an even par 284 in the final round.
Brody Simms posted his third career top-ten finish closing with a 1-over 72 to finish in a tie for sixth place at 5-under par. Marshall’s Cameron Jarvis took home the individual title finishing at 8-under. Simms carded three birdies in his final round.
Freshman Ryan Dinan had an excellent showing in his first collegiate appearance finishing at 4-under for the tournament in a tie for 10th place. Dinan was the only Viking to finish all three rounds under par. He posted back-to-back 1-under rounds of 70 in the first two rounds and closed with a 2-under 69 in round three. Dinan finished with five birdies over his final 18 holes, including two in a row on holes 10 and 11 to start the back nine. He closed with seven straight pars for a back nine 33.
Dillon Pendergast closed with a 1-over 72 to finish at even par for the tournament. Pendergast finished in a tie for 23rd place in the individual standings. Dominik Cosic posted his lowest score of the week in the final round, closing with an even par 71. Cosic finished tied for 35th overall.
Mason Frazier posted a 4-over 75 in the final round to finish in a tie for 39th place at 6-over par. Alex Anderson, playing as an individual, posted a final round 78 to finish in a tie for 70th place at 11-over.
Cleveland State returns to action this weekend as the Vikings head to Oakland for the Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate. Play begins on Saturday, September 14.
