The city-owned Ironwood Golf Course has undergone several improvements in recent months, with more on the way.
According to a press release from the city of Gainesville, improvements have been made to all aspects of the facility at 2100 NE 39th Ave., including upgrades to the course, the clubhouse and bar, and restrooms.
The course was seeded with winter rye grass on Dec. 30; however, freezing conditions in January have slowed the growing process, according to the press release. Officials with the city’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs (PRCA) expect course conditions to improve with the warmer weather.
“We’ve received an influx of feedback in the past few days, asking why the course and clubhouse aren’t in their usual condition,” said PRCA Director Roxy Gonzalez in a press release. “It’s a fair question. We thank our community for their continued support and patience, and we hope this status report will give golfers an idea of what to expect over the next several weeks.”
The city also has leased the bar area to a new company, which is currently undergoing all necessary inspections and licensing.
Not all the repairs and improvements to Ironwood were planned, however. A plumbing failure in the clubhouse restroom about two weeks ago led to flooding in the facility. The city was forced to replace damaged flooring and drywall inside the clubhouse.
Golfers this year can also look forward to some new wheels, as the city’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget includes funding for new golf carts. According to the city, the purchase of the carts is currently underway.
“We acknowledge the challenges,” Gonzalez said in the press release. “But we’re confident Ironwood will come through this better than ever. Your experience matters to us. Thank you for understanding as we do the work needed to keep Ironwood a community gem well into the future.”
