Cincinnati Bearcats football gets commitment from Ohio State tight end
University of Cincinnati Bearcats football has added another tight end to complement NFL prospect Joe Royer and returning quarterback Brendan Sorsby.
Patrick Gurd, who just helped the Ohio State Buckeyes win a national championship, will play his final season for Scott Satterfield and the Bearcats. Gurd is 6-foot-4 and 249 pounds and prepped at New Albany High School. Gurd made his announcement Monday night.
Gurd played in 27 games for the Buckeyes from 2020 to 2024, 14 of which came this past season. He only had two career receptions, but was primarily a blocking tight end. At UC, he will take on the role most recently performed by Francis Sherman, a transfer from Louisville who played last season for the Bearcats.
Gurd has previously worked with UC Director of Football Performance Niko Palazeti, who was with the Buckeyes under nationally recognized strength coach Mickey Marotti. He also was a teammate of UC senior Royer during his time in Columbus.
Gurd was a four-time Ohio State scholar-athlete and a three-time All-Big Ten Academic honoree. The Bearcats often use multiple tight end sets, so he is seen as a perfect fit.
