Sharjah Warriorz have confirmed that former Sri Lanka and England head coach Chris Silverwood has been appointed the franchise’s bowling coach for the forthcoming edition of the ILT20. Silverwood will be assisting JP Duminy, who was appointed the side’s head coach last month.
The third edition of the competition will be played from January 11 in the UAE.
“I am delighted to be joining the Sharjah Warriorz, who have put together a very strong and exciting squad for the upcoming edition of the ILT20. There is experience and youth, and dynamism all through the set-up, and I am confident together, we can trouble the opposition batters regularly,” Silverwood said on the back of his appointment.
Speaking of the appointment of the 49-year-old, Kshemal Waingankar, COO of Sharjah Warriorz, said: “The ILT20 is a dynamic tournament with the highest number of overseas players involved. We were keen on bringing in Coaches in with experience and with an understanding of the cultural nuances of the subcontinental cricketers and in Chris, we believe we have found just the right fit. Tom on the other hand has played a massive part with the South African team’s growth in the last few seasons and we are excited to see him combine with JP and the rest of the Leadership group to make the Warriorz into a formidable unit.”
Tom Dawson-Squibb, meanwhile, will also join the coaching set up of the Warriorz as performance coach.
The Warriorz finished bottom of the table in ILT20 2023, collecting just eight points from 10 games.
