Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff impressed throughout 2024, as they proudly flew the flag for American tennis.
American tennis enjoyed another strong year in large part thanks to the efforts of Fritz and Gauff, who both finished 2024 inside the top five.
Gauff won the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, taking down a hall of fame-worthy list of opponents on her way to the title including Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka.
In the men’s’ game Fritz reached the US Open final, before falling to world number one Jannik Sinner in straight sets.
Gauff, currently ranked third on the WTA Tour, and Fritz, fourth on the ATP Tour, are at the top of their games heading into the new year, and one of their fellow Americans can’t wait to see them participate at the United Cup next month.
Speaking on the Tennis Channel Live podcast, former Wimbledon quarter-finalist Chris Eubanks revealed what he’s most looking forward to at the 2025 United Cup.
“Taylor Fritz having the career year he had last year, also having Coco Gauff play in this event for the very first time, it’s certainly going to be something very special,” he said.
“I can’t wait to see Coco and Taylor team up in mixed doubles.
“They played together in the Olympics this year, to get them on a hard court together could be something really special.
“I’m excited to see all of Team USA go out there and hopefully get a win and start their year off on the right foot.”
Gauff and Fritz reached the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles tournament in Paris, where they lost 6-7, 6-3, (8-10) to the Canadian duo of Gabriela Dabrowski and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The pair may be the biggest names on Team USA but will be joined by Danielle Collins, Denis Kudla, Robert Galloway, and Desirae Krawczyk in Australia.
Eubanks seems to think that the rest of the American team is more than aware that Fritz and Gauff will be doing the majority of the ‘heavy lifting’ at the United Cup.
“They know trust me, I’m willing to bet you that everyone knows going into that,” he said.
“Taylor is excited to play, he looks forward to playing in these big time team matches.
“So if you’re sitting on the bench like Denis Kudla and Robert Galloway, go ahead and kick your feet up and get comfortable because unless an injury takes place, I think Fritz is going to go out there and fly the flag high.”
The United Cup is still a relatively new competition, having only been introduced to the tennis calendar in 2023.
Team USA won the inaugural event before Germany took home the title in 2024 thanks to the efforts of Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber.
All 18 teams will be thinking they have what it takes to lift the trophy this time around, but does anyone have the firepower to compete with the Americans in 2025?

The Americans have by far the lowest combined ranking of their top two stars, as Gauff and Fritz will provide a real test to any of their opponents.
Three of the four previous United Cup finalists are ranked in the top three, as Poland and Italy could pose a real threat to Team USA.
It would also be unwise to count out Greece, who have two former top-three stars in their ranks and will be looking to start the year off on the right foot.
Only time will tell if Gauff and Fritz can bring home a second United Cup crown to the United States, but fans will no doubt witness some more thrilling action down under regardless of the result.
The 2025 United Cup is set to begin on December 27.
