BUSHKILL TWP., Pa. – A beloved destination for ice cream, putting and family fun is starting a new chapter in Northampton County.
Mountain View Family Drive-In, a restaurant and miniature golf course at 602 Jacobsburg Road in Bushkill Township, will hold a grand reopening on Saturday, Dec. 7, with a new owner and an updated menu.
As WFMZ previously reported, Mountain View temporarily closed in late October ahead of its sale to new owner, Sammy Baurkot, along with planned upgrades to the menu and space.
The sale to Baurkot, who also owns Bushkill Park in Forks Township, has since been completed, and the Mountain View team is ready to debut the business’ changes, including new ice cream and savory food options as well as fresh paint and other cosmetic touches.
“We are very excited,” manager Julie Higgins told 69 News on Friday. “We brightened up the space, and we’re looking forward to seeing all of our customers and also meeting some new ones.”
Mountain View will continue to offer its popular burgers and cheesesteaks while introducing new options such as cheesesteak egg rolls, a vegan patty melt wrap and regular and gluten-free pizza from Matey’s American Pizza Company.
The menu also will feature more salad options such as chicken Caesar and Cobb, along with new sides such as sweet potato fries and tater tots, Higgins said.
“All sandwiches can be served on a roll or as a wrap, and all sandwiches now come with a side – your choice of fresh-cut fries, sweet potato fries or tater tots,” Higgins said.
As far as ice cream goes, customers will still be able to enjoy a wide array of hard and soft serve ice cream flavors with hot fudge, sprinkles and various other toppings available.
Two of the business’ most popular selections include black raspberry and Pineapple Dole Whip soft serve.
“We also added two flavors of vegan ice cream, two sugar-free flavors and Italian ice,” Higgins said. “We want to give our customers more options.”
Mountain View’s miniature golf will continue to be offered year-round, with pricing at $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and active and retired military members, $6 for ages 5-12 and under and free for ages 4 and under.
Family-friendly events also will continue to be held, including the upcoming Dinner with Santa and Mrs. Claus, 5-7 p.m. Dec. 14, and lunch with Santa and Mrs. Claus, noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 21.
Mountain View’s regular winter hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 pm. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
“We’re so excited,” Higgins said. “The mini golf will be open year-round unless it’s covered in snow!”
The recent sale of Mountain View marks the second time the property has come under new ownership since it re-opened in 2019.
The original Mountain View restaurant, with roots going back to the 1950s, had a much smaller footprint, serving up fast food and ice cream. The mini-golf course was added in 1962. It closed in 2004, and the property fell into disrepair.
Lanie and John Yaswinski of Bushkill Township built the current 3,000-square-foot restaurant from the ground up, adding a covered porch, outdoor seating area, and party pavilion. They incorporated features from the original mini-golf course into the reimagined course.
The Yaswinkis sold the property in the spring of 2023 to two couples: Patrick and Shea Missmer of Danielsville; and Nicole and Jeff Caulfield of Nazareth.
“The community has shown us so much support and we are so grateful!” the previous owners posted on the business’ Facebook page in October.
“The new owner has so many wonderful plans and we are so excited for them and for the community. Thank you to everyone who came and all the friends we made along the way! From our family to yours!”
