(WTVY) – The footprint of the largest bank in the United States will soon be getting much bigger in Alabama, as JPMorganChase announced a new expansion plan that will see the company triple their branches within the next 5 years and create nearly 200 new jobs in the state.
Chase currently serves more than 555,000 Alabamians and around 22,000 businesses both big and small that are based in the state.
The firm, with locations in all 48 contiguous U.S. states, operates 11 statewide branches in Alabama, among those being a location on Madison Boulevard near Huntsville which is celebrating its grand opening on Saturday, February 8. With the plan set in place by the banking giant, that number of branches in the state would expand to 35 by 2030.
“Alabama is a vibrant state with a strong manufacturing economy, good small business growth, and burgeoning aerospace and technology sectors. Our mission is to support economic growth and foster opportunity for all,” said Jennifer Roberts, CEO of Chase Consumer Banking.
The majority of the bank’s Alabama branches are currently inside the Greater Birmingham area, while the remainder are located in and around Huntsville or in the state’s major college towns of Tuscaloosa and Auburn. The Auburn location was the first in Alabama for Chase, being opened near the university campus in 2019.
“Since we opened the first branch in our state, Alabama has greeted Chase with open arms. Together, we’ve helped people make the most of their money to improve their financial lives and grow their businesses,” said Jennifer DiSalvo, head of Chase branches in Alabama. “Now that we’re tripling the size of our Alabama branch network, we’ll be able to help more people, lift up more small businesses and make a difference all across our beautiful state.”
That tripling of the state’s branch network won’t just be centralized to the areas where Chase has already made their presence known, as the plan calls for locations in accessible driving distance for at least half of the state’s population, according to the firm.
News4 reached out to Greg Hassell, a regional spokesperson for Chase, to ask about the “where?” side of this major expansion. Hassell was able to confirm that, pending regulatory approval, the firm plans to open one or more new branches in the following markets:
“This is the right time and the right place for an expansion of Chase branches and jobs in communities all across this state- from Mobile to Montgomery and Muscle Shoals,” Roberts said.
This expansion effort by JPMorganChase will be boosted with a major hiring effort by the firm, with at least 170 jobs expected to be created to service these new planned location.
No exact timeline outside of the planned 2030 completion date was given for any branch openings in any of the targeted markets.
