CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – On Monday, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced Charleston’s own Emma Navarro as its Most Improved Player of the Year.
Navarro’s season highlights include her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at Wimbledon, followed by a semifinal finish at the US Open. She also made semifinal appearances in Bad Homburg (500), Toronto (1000) and Monterrey (500), solidifying her position as one of the sport’s rising stars.
The 23-year-old saw three wins over Top 5 players on Hologic WTA Tour this year, including over then World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka at the WTA 1000 BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells).
Navarro made her Top 10 debut in September.
In a release on Monday, the WTA shared that Navarro is one of the most exciting young talents in women’s tennis and continues to shine on and off the court. Proudly representing her home country, she competed in the Paris Olympic Games as one of four American tennis players to compete in the singles competition.
Navarro has committed to returning to the Lowcountry this spring for the 53rd edition of the Credit One Charleston Open. It will run from March 29 to April 6, 2025.
