Being able to take our laptops and phones with us on business trips means we can work almost anywhere in the world that has an Internet connection. We’ve never been more mobile and liberated.
One small issue when working abroad is making sure you have a power supply that will work with regional power outlets and which have enough outputs and juice to charge your laptop, top up your phone and keep all your gadgets powered and ready for action.
The new Ceptics 65W Nanfuse World Travel Adapter uses the latest GaN technology which results in a smaller and cooler running power supply that can accept voltages ranging from 100 to 240V at 50 or 60Hz.
The power supply is about the size of a square pepper mill and can deliver a total power output of 65W, which is enough to power many popular laptops. Unusually, this neat little power supply has a removable 1.5m extension cable which can be fitted with one of six global power adapters.
There are mains adapters for power outlets in the UK, EU, Shuko, US, US grounded and Australasia. Ceptics uses SWadAPT-compatible adapters and the company even sells extra adapters for some of the world’s more exotic power outlets used in countries like Brazil, Italy and Denmark.
The adapter’s total power budget of 65W can be shared across three USB ports. Thanks to Smart Voltage Technology, there’s support for Quick Charge 3.0 and Power Delivery PD. Two of the USB ports are Type C while the third is Type A which is handy for legacy devices.
As well as its three USB ports, the Ceptics 65W Nanfuse World Travel Adapter also has USA and USA Grounded power outlets so you can plug in your laptop’s power supply if you have a larger MacBook or other laptop that requires more than 65W. It’s a handy feature and I’ve not seen anything like it before.
So far so good. However, it’s worth pointing out that the Nanfuse uses a special connector for the extension cable to connect to the power brick. If you were to lose or forget that cable, you can’t substitute it for a regular figure-of-eight or kettle power lead instead. It’s not a big deal but it is worth bearing in mind.
One other thing worth pointing out is that the Ceptics 65W Nanfuse World Travel Adapter is not a voltage adapter. It can handle a power source ranging from 100 to 240V but it can’t step-down or step-up voltages so you have to ensure that the device you plug into the adapter can accept the local voltage.
Fortunately, laptops and other consumer electronics items these days can handle multiple voltages so check carefully if you are thinking of plugging in your hair straighteners or hair dryer into the power outlets as you could be in for a shock… literally.
Verdict: The Ceptics 65W Nanfuse World Travel Adapter is a handy travel companion that should be able to handle all your charging and power needs wherever you are in the world. I think a carrying pouch for the adapters, power brick and cable would be nice so everything stays together, but given the very keen price, it’s a bit of a bargain and well worth buying for your next trip overseas.
